Born in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1981, Pieter de Beer always harbored a profound love for exploring the world, a wanderlust that would shape the course of his life. Even from a young age, his adventurous spirit led him to explore the diverse landscapes of the African continent, including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, and Namibia.
At the age of 20, this deep-seated desire led him to embark on an international adventure, leaving his home country for the dynamic landscape of the United Kingdom. It wasn’t long before an even more exciting opportunity arose, taking him across the Atlantic to the USA
Pieter embraced his time in the States with gusto, immersing himself in American culture and exploring its vast landscapes and diverse communities. He particularly enjoyed travelling to iconic destinations such as Los Angeles, the vibrant energy of Las Vegas, the majestic wilderness of Yellowstone National Park, and the awe-inspiring grandeur of the Grand Canyon. It was in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, that he found a truly special connection, falling in love with the warmth and genuine hospitality of the local people. This period of his life was marked by rich experiences and a broadening of his horizons, as he traversed the country, soaking in its unique charm.
In 2008, after carefully considering various job prospects, including opportunities in Saudi Arabia and Canada, Pieter made a heartfelt and definitive decision: to return to his beloved South Africa. It’s a choice he has never once regretted. Since his homecoming, he has built a beautiful and fulfilling life, falling in love with a special woman and welcoming a cherished daughter into their family. Together, they continue their shared passion for travel, transforming their wanderlust into a family affair, exploring the world’s wonders side by side.
A pivotal moment in Pieter’s life occurred in 2019 when he, his wife and 3-year-old daughter were involved in a very serious tourism-related accident. This challenging experience brought a profound realization about the critical importance of responsible tourism. Since then, Pieter has become a passionate advocate, actively promoting his activism by creating awareness among tourism operators and tourists alike. His aim is to encourage responsible practices and to ensure that all tourism experiences are not only enjoyable but also sustainable and respectful of local communities and environments.
Pieter has a particular fondness for the idyllic tropical islands of the Indian Ocean. The Seychelles holds the top spot as his absolute favorite vacation destination, though he also cherishes the pristine beauty of the Maldives and Mauritius. His global adventures have also instilled a deep appreciation for China. He finds the sheer scale and breathtaking beauty of Tianmen Mountain truly incredible, marveling at its capacity to accommodate millions of Chinese tourists while maintaining its grandeur. For the ultimate shopping experience, Hong Kong is his preferred spot, while the fascinating resorts of Macau provide an excellent setting for memorable family vacations.
Beyond dry land, Pieter also deeply enjoys the ocean and diving all over the world. His commitment to safety and proficiency in the underwater realm is underscored by his Rescue Diver certification, a qualification that emphasizes emergency response and diver rescue, enabling him to act as a more confident and capable dive buddy

He channels this enthusiasm, alongside his love for travel, into his highly successful Mr. de Beer YouTube channel. With more than 21 million views and over 100,000 subscribers from all over the world, his channel serves as a global platform where he shares his experiences and insights, connecting with a vast audience.
With his deep-seated passion for travel, his unwavering love for his home country, his newfound commitment to responsible practices, and his significant online presence, Pieter took a significant step in 2023, deciding to become a Tourist Guide within South Africa’s vibrant tourism industry.
